Ida Birchall Theological Collection

The library offers a range of general interest Christian books, good quality books on the Christian faith, CD’s, videos and cassettes suitable for all age groups. Located in the church lounge (office area, accessible via the glass walkway between the church and hall buildings).

Open Tuesday – Friday 10am-2.00pm and before and after worship on Sundays

The collection was originally purchased and set up in 1995 as a tribute to the late Dr. Ida Lois Birchall, a renowned and much loved member of the Launceston community. Dr. Birchall was a generous and active member of the Pilgrim congregation from the time of the inception of the Uniting Church in 1977, and prior to that of the Christ Church Congregational Church in Frederick Street.

In 2012 parts of the collection which were no longer receiving regular use were sold, and the proceeds were donated to the Seghe Theological Seminary in the Solomon Islands. The smaller, more current collection was moved to its present location in the church lounge where there are comfortable seats and a welcoming atmosphere.
